I started a discussion last week on several social networking platforms. The question was, “what social networking platform has been of most help to recruiters in Q1 2010?" Being a social media enthusiast, the responses were very insightful and helped us at HireLabs to better understand the social recruitment industry. From over 500+ responses to the question above, following is what we have :
- LinkedIn – 30%
- Facebook – 25%
- Twitter – 29%
- Others – 15%
A few privacy issues were also discussed. One of the respondents added that social networking is a great tool for communication with potential candidates but much work needs to be done on making these interactions more private. Plenty of supporting comments also streamed in from all over that projected this to be the decade of social recruitment.
So we cannot deny the significance of social media in hiring but a lot of hiring managers would rather see some proof of the candidates’ actual knowledge, skills and abilities than simply view an extensive, active profile on a social site. This ‘proof’, as one respondent termed it, could easily be identified using talent assessment solutions. It seems that the strong ongoing wave of social recruitment would need the back pressure of flexible, scalable assessment solutions that can offer customized tests.
