Manage your own dreams

Last week I wrote a blog with the title "Dare to Dream". As I was thinking about it this past week and triggered by something that hit my awareness during a conversation I wanted to extend my thoughts on the subject a little further. Managing your own dreams - this is a topic I have often been confronted with in my life - both professionally and privately.

Many people become part of someone elses dream. They don't realise it, but because they do not set themselves goals or dare to follow their own conviction - they find it easier to follow other people's directions and thinking. In a way, it is also an easy excuse as they can now fault someone else for failure should it occur. And it often does, when you are not following your own vision of your life. People that follow other's dreams are often not at all focused, but simply do as they were told. However, the message that they were told, may have run true and deep for the person whose message it was, but becomes weaker as it is passed on to someone who is not connected to it. Take for instance the person that gets told to sell something to someone. They may have been told how to sell it, but as soon as the other party opposes that they currently do not have a need for it, the person gives up and returns to base with the message "they don't need it at this time. It's not my fault".

People often don't have a goal, they don't think about their goals, they are not solution driven, they don't listen to what the other party actually does need and find a way to sell it to them - they never have a plan A, let alone a plan B or C.

In particular in a time like we are faced with right now, we need leaders. People with a mission that are able to find solutions. It is the people that are able to find creative solutions are the people that make the difference, not the simple messengers that are just doing as they were told.

This is why for me, working with the team at Global Corporate Alliance is such a relief. Like us, they are focused on solutions, not problems. They are driven to make their dream come true. It is their entrepreneurial spirit which we all need more of in these economically challenging times. It is Entrepreneurs like these that will help turn the economy around, that will continue to generate value and create jobs.

Make sure YOU dream your own dream - and the world is your oyster.

What an interesting topic you touch here – talking about dreams. … as Einstein said it; “fantasy is more essential then knowledge”….(but do know the difference :-)
To manage your own dreams – you must first know What you dream of……It all starts by getting closer to your inner self and by understanding what makes you happy. If you feel you are suffering while performing excellence, it might be time to get closer to who you are and what you truly wish for? Most of us have to work anyway - better make sure we totally enjoy what we are doing?! The question that might be helpful while analysing your own dreams and getting in touch with your fantasy is; Imagine you had all the time and all the money of the world - what would you be doing?

In the end - if you do what you like best, chances are you will be very good at it. I know there are things that I am totally not capable of doing and knowing this, does not totally limit me on my choices – if you really want something; Solutions can always be found.....Working nicely together.... Dare to dream and see what positive energy comes from it! No matter how many ceilings I have hit – the dreams keep me going and the wonderful people I truly meet during the innovation process, are the diamonds in my life……..

“The Monk that sold his Ferrari” written by Robin Sharma shares a lot of valuable wisdom on how to find self-discipline to touch your dreams and action these into reality.

Some points i do agree, i want to share my experience as far as dreams are concern. You need to have a goal no doubt but at the same time you need to have a vision and that vision needs to be translated in a simple language which other who are working with you either associates or the people who are working for you. You can see the dream but others may not be able to see the same thing what you are seeing.

Because you are some times depend on others and those others are your obstacles as far as reaching to your dreams are concern.

So this concept dreams should reach to the bottom line of the activity and in this case one should not forget their family members and depedents.

Last week I had a conversation with my manager and the 'dream' topic was part of it as well. She recommended me the book "The Alchemist" from Paulo Coelho. Over 100.000.000 copies sold all over the world...so perhaps you already have read it. If not take a few hours and read this beautifull story about living your dreams.

The entrepreneur 's journey begins with a vision. By their nature, it becomes a need to make the vision real. In the vision lies the goal for which the entrepreneur aims. It is no coincidence that the root word to visionary is vision. The most successful entrepreneurs are visionaries. Your parable of the saleperson who claims that it wasn't his fault as the potential client had not the need for whatever it was the person was selling refelects defeatism. One of my mantras is the 'to give up is to die'. To be a visionary is to process current reality and create the need. To be an entrepreneur is to fill it.
