Meditation

This morning I was sitting outside, surrounded by nature and naturally fell into meditation. It made me realise I had not meditated for quite some time.

. In difficult times, I learnt to meditate and to appreciate how it can have a positive impact on your life - meditation forces you to distance yourself from daily issues and concern and "having to" do anything. Every time I start a new project, I fall into the same trap. I throw myself into with all my passion and energy. By working hard and very focused you and your team reach a certain level that is seen by others as being successful, but as the success increases - the negative factors will come into play like people that want to hook their cars to your train, without the willingness to do anything in return - simply hitching a ride. And as your success grows, you start to move your goals and you want to grow faster and further - which in itself will bring new issues. And before you know it, you are busy all day (in our case a minimum of 12 hours a day) solving problem, answering third parties and emails in every growing quantities and losing sight of all your original goals. That can be detrimental to your objectives and your creativity. So it is not just a great idea, but a necessity to take a step back once in a while and meditate. You can do so anywhere, for me it is always best outside - in the woods or on a beach - a quiet spot where you can sit still and empty your mind of the endless stream of thoughts about all the things you still have to do. 15 to 30 minutes is often enough. After that try and re-prioritise. Look back at the past and see what happened to your original plans, the things you thought were important then. And even look at problems you thought then to be insurmountable...but which you conquered and which are now almost forgotten.

All this is probably strange coming from someone who has as a rule "Short term is now, mid-term this afternoon and long term tomorrow"....

Don't lose your original vision and creativity, don't focus your power and determination on daily problem -  remember that they all have the characteristic to become bigger if you spend much time on them, and disappear when you make them unimportant.

I quote a piece from Wikipedia (one of my favourite sources of information) on Meditation:

Meditation is a mental discipline by which one attempts to get beyond the reflexive, "thinking" mind into a deeper state of relaxation or awareness. Meditation often involves turning attention to a single point of reference. It is recognized as a component of many religions, and has been practiced since antiquity. It is also practiced outside religious traditions. Different meditative disciplines encompass a wide range of spiritual and/or psychophysical practices which may emphasize different goals -- from achievement of a higher state of consciousness, to greater focus, creativity or self-awareness, or simply a more relaxed and peaceful frame of mind.

Hi Adrie, I have to say this is a great topic; and if I may say very valuable to all of us out there. There are many ways of handling a responsibility at work or personal, at times it we get overwhelmed trying to figure out an angle to unravel a particular dilemma; I find it advantageous to just step away and take a few minutes without the emphasizes about the topic at hand. Each one possesses a various way of meditating. Once that’s done the entirety of the issue looks entirely different; and it is much easier to unravel that issue. That has worked for me as I am sure it would work for others. Meditation increase physical relaxation, mental calmness, and psychological balance; to cope with numeral issues, conditions; and for overall wellness... Each meditation technique is to channel our awareness into a more positive direction by totally transforming one’s State of mind.Meditation helps one to concentrate on their inner self; therefore it helps with several crux of the issue that we may occurrences in life such as: Dread, stress and self-esteem complexity.
