Your Life's Work
This past week I have had a rude awakening - my brother-in-law, in the prime of his life, passed away suddenly. The shockwaves this generated will take a long time to subside.
An event like this, always has an immediate impact on those that go on living. You feel extreme sadness ofcourse, but it also forces you to think about all the things that you are doing with and in your life and whether those are the things that you feel you should be doing. Both my sister and her husband are entrepreneurs and even this morning we were reminiscing about the fact that for my brother-in-law, his company and his work were the culmination of all the things he has learnt and experienced in life. It was literally his Life's Work. Because of that passion, the many reactions from not only his friends but also his clients, have been extraordinary - they all speak of his amazing personality and the way he was so "in the moment" whenever they met him.
This is what I think you need to have, if you want to run a company, and do it well. It is not about making a lot of money, or even about making money regularly - there will be times that your company barely survives. But specifically then, it is your passion and the heart you put into what you do that will see you through. My own life's work is E.Factor - for me, this is exactly as it was with Edmond's company - a vessel that allows me to put everything I have learnt, and everything I have lived through into practice and allow it to offer something to others, even strangers, all over the world.
Edmond was a shareholder in E.Factor and we are proud that he supported us. We will all miss him dearly - that is obvious, but I am also grateful that he has pointed out this great lesson - do what you are passionate about and you will find the rewards for that work in yourself. In the way you interact with the world around you and the people you touch.
I hope that each of you, reading this blog, will take a moment to look inside yourself and find that passion, that purity, and take it with you to your next meeting, your next call and all the days that will follow.
