About the speakers:
Linda Plano is the founder of Plano & Simple. Her experience ranges in both coaching and matchmaker to hundreds of entrepreneurs for Massachusetts. While coaching the entrepreneurs on how to pitch to investors, she came to realize that she had been training for this vocation for most of her career. Her training in technology (PhD Materials Science & Engineering, Stanford; BS Physics, MIT) and subsequent management and new business development experience in companies ranging from very early startups to multinational conglomerates coupled with an innate ability to pitch had led to her being the go-to person when it came to presenting new opportunities to board members, customers, investors and others.
Dave Bisceglia is the Co-Founder and CEO of The Tap Lab, a Cambridge-based startup that develops social mobile games with a real-world twist. His focus is in game design and business development. Prior to The Tap Lab, Dave was the Co-Founder and President of the Boston University Entrepreneurship Club. Dave has a passion for entertainment and has experience working as a marketing intern/representative at Walden Media, Universal Pictures (UK), and Warner Music Group.
Sheryl Schultz is an expert in startup company dynamics, with a deep understanding of the marketing and organizational challenges faced by early stage businesses. She has spent over 30 years working with startups as a marketer, board advisor, mentor, and investor. Sheryl is a Managing Director at Golden Seeds, and a member of Launchpad Venture Group, both angel investment firms. She is a Board Director for Crimson Hexagon, a global data analytics firm, and The Capital Network, Boston's leading non-profit organization providing education and community to help early-stage entrepreneurs master the funding process. Sheryl also co-founded the Women’s Entrepreneurial Council (WEC), a “super” organization created to align the many groups that support women entrepreneurs.
Christopher Thorpe is most recently the cofounder of Fresh Pond Partners, a local startup accelerator, after cofounding startups including Solano Labs (tddium) and Blueleaf. Dr. Thorpe is an active angel investor and mentor and began his career as a software engineer in electronic commerce with Viaweb and Yahoo! Shopping, eventually coordinating the internationalization of Yahoo!'s e-commerce properties and later Tellme Networks' speech recognition telephony platform. He holds a Ph.D. from Harvard University and several patents and patents pending in cryptography and natural language processing.
Jeremy Halpern is a Partner, and the Director of Business Development, Emerging Companies Group, at Nutter McClennen & Fish LLP, a Boston based law firm. As a former entrepreneur, Jeremy concentrates on connecting with and supporting the Entrepreneurial Ecosystem in New England, working with current entrepreneurs, angel investors, venture capitalists and corporate strategic partners. Jeremy was the Co-Founder and Executive Vice President of Business Development for MobileTek Corporation, a developer of PC based applications enabling smarter mobility for consumer mobile devices. Jeremy is a member of or participates at Launchpad Venture Group, Boston Harbor Angels, Golden Seeds, NE Angels, MassChallenge, Web Innovators Group, MassTLC, Mobile Mondays, Boston IDEA and MassApps.
